Uploaded a bit later than we'd like, but it's still good!
It's been an interesting couple of months. We've made some progress, we've stalled in bits, but we've learned more about ourselves than expected.
We've been working on a big project at work, part of a team helping modernize some absolute legacy junk - and that's taken a lot out of us. Then we got hit with the heatwave - I think it's definitely time to look into air conditioning before next summer, because this isn't getting better any time soon.
But it's also been one of those quarters where we've come away with a better idea of who we are and who we'd like to be. A better sense of the place we hold in friends lives, and several reminders to cherish the fuck out of the sophonts in our lives . We've loved (platonically). We've walked barefoot on the beach for the first time in I don't know how long. We've streamed videogames for the first time in years, and helped raise money for Trans Lifeline while doing so.
July has been a bit slower so far with not being able to concentrate for some of it with the heat, but we're still trying.
the permission to fuck up
One of the things we did during this quarter was read through Travels (NSFW). We don't read a lot of fiction these days, but... it turned out to be what we needed, when we needed it.
I am less anxious than I used to be, but there is still a tendency to deny experiences - even when we have the resources to solve the problems. Opportunity to see a cool band in a nearby city? Buses home stop running before they finish, and we have work in the morning. We could have got a taxi or a hotel, taken the following day off, but we didn't.
We know we're behind on life experience compared to friends [1] - and yet still, some of them call us a guiding light in their lives, which makes us tear up. It makes us want to be able to tell better stories - and that, in turn means having the confidence to fuck up more often.
And so while this year's goal was perseverance, hunkering down, survival - we want to get out places amore often.
