Short, a little sweet, a little sour, to the beat.
Going to try and keep this one short.
It's not been a great quarter. We've been dealing with a lot of shit especially during September and October so far - from our desktop PC's motherboard breaking during what should have been a routine case swap, to the boiler breaking last week.
But we also got to hang out with a friend outside a con setting for a bit, and that's pretty healing. Spent a few hours just sitting on the side of a riverbank and reflecting. Our now legal HRT got swapped from pills to patches and we'd like to think it's having more of an impact. We'd like to think we're at least doing slightly better with task management between a combination of a Supernote Manta for writing today's stuff down and Unforgetful for keeping stuff in mind longer term. We've fixed up some long standing issues with the code of my other website (even if the redesign is still pending). We've struggled at work at times but we've learned from a lot of it. We've spent so much time in the VRChat club scene that we're recognized by some furry DJs now - something we wouldn't have expected five months ago.
So yeah, a mixed bag. But I don't know if the amount of time we spend on quarterly reviews and then on trying to package them for public consumption is necessarily healthiest, or if it's another part of our issues with consuming rather than creating. So we might cut back on these next year, stick to the big ones of the annual review and the Q2 one for our birthday.
looking forwards
There's a few things we'd like to experiment with over this next quarter.
Meta's Muse agent kind of sparked the whole negative hyperfixation thing again, so there's a decent chance we're going to reformat an old computer we're not using as stock Ubuntu and see what Hermes Agent and a local LLM can do without access to any of our data. I'm expecting "not much", but this isn't something we've experimented with - maybe it'll impress us enough to stick around if it can set up some self hosted services that were on the to-do list or something.
A relative is getting us a standing desk converter for Christmas, so it'll be interesting to see how that changes things in terms of posture (...and tidying the desk up to have space to use it)
We can't particularly divorce technology from our lives, but it'd be nice to go wander in the woods more often with the phone at the bottom of the backpack.
It'd be nice to talk more and that means probably going live on Twitch more often, but without our brain going into the kind of checklist mode it does with multiplayer Archipelagos.
We also want to try making a VRChat world but as with a lot of project ideas, that's going to need us being less tired after work.
Anyway, let's get back to it.
